Welcome to Global Nexus
It's strange now to think that this all began as an unhinged idea written down quickly in Microsoft Word while we were bored in a classroom more than six years ago.
We called it "Campaign for the Entire God Damn World."
It was never meant to last as long as it has. It started as nothing more than a chaotic experiment in geopolitics, absurd rule systems, and long-nights spent fleshing out concepts and ideas into rules and systems.
The idea came from three friends - two of whom have since largely moved on to (arguably) more normal pursuits. I, on the other hand, could never let this silly "little" game go.
Somewhere along the way, it evolved: even more concepts, expansions, messy test games, niche Instagram updates, lots of memes, and now... this.
After years of tinkering, reworking, and late-night design spirals, the game has a new name: Global Nexus.
It's cleaner, sharper, and a much better reflection of what this thing has transformed into - a game not just of conquest, but also of diplomacy, sabotage, lawmaking, ideology, economic management (and collapse), brinkmanship, and building something ever-so-fragile and strange out of dozens of competing systems and interests.
This isn't finished yet. The full ruleset is in draft form, and some sections are solid; others are being rewritten and reimagined for what feels like the millionth time. But the vision is clearer than it has ever been before, and many of the game's core systems are starting to feel cohesive.
Over the coming months, you'll start seeing more of the intricate world I've been constructing lately.
Dev updates, design breakdowns, worldbuilding, and the occasional wild rule idea that may or may not survive the editing process (when that does eventually begin).
At this point you may be asking "what's next?" And boy am I excited to share:
- New modules are in development: deeper policy-making systems, evolving social dynamics, and granular economic control and management.
- And of course - this site - which will serve as the game's living archive, with updated rules, dev logs, design reflections, and more.
Thank you for being here.
Whether you're one of the original players from a former test game, a newcomer from Instagram, or just a policy nerd with a love of overly complex systems - this game is for you.
Let's see how far it goes.
- Jacob
